The areas near the golf courses offer a variety of fun activities for all ages. Here are just a few of the options for each area.

Saratoga
Saratoga Sets the Pace

The pace of summer was set centuries ago in Saratoga Springs, located just 25 miles north of Albany. Time in Saratoga passes at your leisure. The famed racetrack, the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, the spas and mineral baths, and the gourmet dining and shopping on Broadway are just a few of Saratoga’s famed attractions. You’ll see why ESPN named Saratoga Race Course as one of the 25 greatest sports venues in America. The horses run from late July through Labor Day.

Lake Placid
A Gold Medal Destination

Centered in the heart of the High Peaks region, Lake Placid has always had spectacular scenery. But after hosting the 1980 Olympics, it captured the heart of America as well. A stroll down charming Main Street with its shops and restaurants is a must, but there’s much more. Ride the Cloudsplitter on Whiteface Mountain, the most scenic gondola in North America. Visit the Olympic Ski Jumping Complex, where the U.S freestyle aerial team trains. Careen down an Olympic bobsled run. Skate on 1980's “Miracle on Ice.” Just a few ideas for you!

Lake George
Where Summer Vacations Reach Their Peak

From the crest of a roller coaster to the top of a mountain, the Lake George area is where a vacation reaches its peak. Hiking, boating, camping, para-sailing and even hot air balloon rides are all part of the Lake George experience. There’s even an indoor waterpark. Drive Prospect Mountain Veteran’s Memorial Highway for panoramic 100-mile views of Vermont, New Hampshire and Canada. Then take the “viewmobile” to the summit! Be sure to see Fort Ticonderoga from the Revolutionary War...it even has a lock of George Washington’s hair!

Adirondacks
Come to Life

Between golf courses, you’ll want to take a breather. Great towns to hit include Saranac Lake, Blue Mountain Lake, Tupper Lake and Old Forge. Saranac Lake has guided canoeing and kayaking. The Adirondacks Museum in Blue Mountain Lake has been called the “Smithsonian of the Adirondacks,” by National Geographic. In Tupper Lake, you’ll be amazed at the Wild Center, which has hundreds of live animals and walkways with scenic overlooks. Old Forge is a great place to shop, with one of the country’s largest and most unusual hardware stores. If you have kids in tow, there’s the Enchanted Forest Water Safari. Golfers love it, too!

Cooperstown
A Hall of Fame Town

The National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum is a must-see. It's home to thousands of the game's most important and unique artifacts. The 2009 induction weekend is July 24-26. Doubleday Field is only a few blocks away. Main Street is filled with baseball shops and great restaurants. It also borders picturesque Otsego Lake. Once here, you will not want to miss all of the other attractions and recreational opportunities that make this region so special.

The Cooperstown Beverage Trail has quickly become a must-do for visitors, where tours and samplings at Bear Pond Wines, Brewery Ommegang, Cooperstown Brewing Company, and the Fly Creek Cider Mill provide a true “taste” of the area. The history buff must not miss a trip to The Farmers’ Museum, where they will take a step back in time to 1845. For art enthusiasts, the Fenimore Art Museum and Cooperstown Art Association, as well as the Smithy-Pioneer Gallery, offer inspiring exhibits.

Finger Lakes Region

Western New York is home to the Finger Lakes and Rochester, both of which offer golfers a host of off-course activities. Let's start with the renowned Finger Lakes and the dozens of wineries surrounding these glacial beauties. Rolling hills, farmlands and clear waters have made the Finger Lakes a natural destination for more than one million visitors annually. Charming towns dot the landscape, providing lots of opportunities to shop, dine and even a spa treatment for the spouse.

Located northwest of Canandaigua Lake sits Rochester, home to the George Eastman House, Lake Ontario waterfront and abundant nightlife. The city is famous for its festivals, professional sports teams (including the Triple A Rochester Red Wings) and variety of restaurants. Don't forget to try a Garbage Plate! This is also a golfer's paradise...home to the Wegmans Rochester LPGA and Oak Hill Golf Club, which has hosted the Ryder Cup, U.S. Open and PGA Championship.
